About Max
I’m Max, a fine-line handpoke tattoo artist based in Santa Monica.
My work focuses on clean, minimalist tattoos with an emphasis on thoughtful composition, careful linework, and a relaxed client experience. I’m especially drawn to small details, simple forms, and designs that are personal without feeling overworked.
A thoughtful approach to tattooing
I began tattooing in 2017 as a hobby, but over time it grew into something I cared more and more about. What started as a creative outlet gradually became a passion, and eventually the work I wanted to build my career around.
I’ve always been drawn to work that feels personal and timeless. That carries into the way I tattoo—keeping designs clean, finding the right scale and placement, and taking the time to make even the smallest details feel intentional.
Handpoke naturally fits that approach. Each tattoo is built slowly by hand, without the sound or vibration of a machine. The process feels quieter and more personal, and gives me the control and patience that suits the fine-line work I’m drawn to.
The Studio
Appointments take place in my private Santa Monica studio, designed to feel comfortable, calm, and unhurried.
I work primarily one-on-one, with space for small group sessions as well. The goal is simple: a quieter tattoo experience where there’s time to talk through the design, placement, and details without the atmosphere of a traditional tattoo shop.
Outside the studio
Outside the studio, I’m currently studying design at UCLA, where I’ve been expanding into graphic design, branding, and other forms of visual communication. It’s given me a new way to think about composition, typography, and storytelling—and a lot of that naturally feeds back into the way I approach tattooing.
I also love spending time with my pets, Sunny, my miniature dachshund, and Benny, my rabbit. Outside of work, I enjoy going out with friends, traveling whenever I get the chance, trying new restaurants, and playing online chess. A lot of my inspiration comes from those everyday experiences—places I visit, things I notice, conversations, art, packaging, typography, and small details that stick with me and eventually find their way back into something I’m making.
